I remember, with some fondness, El Pollo Asado (now known in the
US as "El Pollo Loco"), from when I lived in Colorado. Checking
the web, I find that that concern has stores all over the South-
west, including a few in San Antonio - but none in the Dallas
area.

The basic concept is flame-grilled chicken, served with tortillas
and salsa cruda, as fast food.

Anyone know of anything similar to this in the Plano-Allen-McKinney
corridor, or near the Bush Turnpike / I-35E area?

Thanks.

Mark:

I frequented El Pollo Loco when I lived in Los Angeles (suburbs) about
1990. The orders took longer (more options) but the food's more
authentic than Taco Bell (I know .. that doesn't say much).

The closest thing in the QSR (fast food) market that I've found in
Dallas is Taco Cabana's "Flameante" which is available each day until
they sell out - several times I've gone there late at night for
flameante and left empty-handed. Their website describes it as
"citrus-marinated rotisserie chicken" and I don't know any other place
that sells it.

You can find their locations via www.tacobueno.com

To answer your specific question, I found two off US-75: one in Plano at
1101 E Spring Creek Pkwy and one in McKinney at 2005 W University.

We had El Pollo Asado in DFW back in the late 80s. I know there was a
location at Arkansas and 360 in Arlington and another out on west Spur 303
as I really liked their food and frequented both. Will try the flameante
from Taco Cabana.

There is a restaurant at Garland Rd and Jupiter in East Dallas that has
Mexican-style grilled chicken. Served with rice, beans, tortillas, and
salsa. It's an old Whataburger building on Garland Rd., across the street
from JackInTheBox.

Keller Springs, actually.

And: it's damned good. I'll be back, frequently. Thanks for

I've not been there and know nothing about it, but have noticed "El
Pollo Regio" on Beltline in Carrollton. It looks like what you are
describing - I remember El Pollo Loco as well.
