Try Pockets. It's where all the dfw.singles whores used to go to fill
their holes, right by Arlington, too!

Tried them just last week, the Italian. Not bad, generous with the
meats.

Still prefer Jimmy Johns for the bread. I hear Dino's in Arlington is
good. I'm looking for a momandpop run by NY transplants.

I've never been real impressed with Jimmy Johns. I do like Dino's though.
Like it even better when they had multiple locations and wish the one in
Irving was still there!

If you're looking for the crap that Pat's and Geno's serves in Philly,
you're wasting your time as the quality of those sandwiches is highly
overrated. So you might as well got to Arby's.

It's not quite the mid-cities area but Dave and Busters makes a pretty
real and tasty Philly steak. You can take that from someone who lived in
Philly for over 30 years.

Onto the other types of NE food...

Jersey Mikes isn't a *bad* sub/hoagie and if you're looking for real NY
Jewish deli style food like corned beef, I'm rather fond of Cyndi's NY
deli.

Taylor pork roll (and scrapple) can be obtained from Central Market but
any store that stocks Boars Head brands can order it.

For PA Dutch foods, the Heritage Bakery around 175 & 274 is it.

Forgot to mention that Texadelphia makes a fair one. It varies with the
location. The one in Richardson is pretty hit-and-miss. The Irvbing one
is consistently good.

What does one do with this stuff? I tried a slice of it once
at the CM deli after reading someone raving about it, and
didn't think it was anything special. I'm thinking it's
either the nostalgia factor for some folks, or I need to
do something to it before eating it....

Thanks for any info.

Please don't tell me you tried to eat it raw. Plop a 1/4 inch slice in a
pan and fry it up good. That aside, it's either good with eggs for
breakfast or on a roll with cheese. I prefer it to breakfast sausage or
any of the other meats that normally go with breakfast.

Um. Yeah. That might explain why I wasn't very impressed, I
guess.

Just in case you ever have the urge to try scrapple, be sure to cook
that.

It's hard to explain the taste but the closest thing I ever got to it was
fried bologna with sauerkraut. It's got a bit of a tang to it.

The only place to get a truly good cheesesteak around here is at Fred's
Downtown Philly.

Jersey Mike's makes pretty good subs. They certainly are the best chain
sub. Can't compete with a true deli but still pretty darn good.

I tried them when they were on Inwood and they were horrid. Have they
improved in the last seven years?
